Arsenal Women have announced the signing of German goalkeeper Anneke Borbe from VfL Wolfsburg.
Borbe will provide competition to Daphne van Domselaar, who was between the sticks for the Gunners as they won the Women’s Champions League.
The 24-year-old arrives on a free transfer after she left Wolfsburg at the end of her contract.
Borbe told the club’s official website: “I’m really proud to join this amazing club.
“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to come and be a part of Arsenal at such an exciting time.
“I’m looking forward to getting down to work with my teammates, and of course playing in front of our incredible supporters at the Emirates Stadium.”
Arsenal last month confirmed that all of their Women’s Super League home games will be played at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Why have Arsenal signed Anneke Borbe
New Arsenal signing Anneke Borbe had been tracked by the club and manager Renee Slegers.
Slegers told the club’s website: “We’re delighted to bring Anneke to the club. We’ve been impressed by her composure and aerial presence and we believe she has a high ceiling for development here.
“We’re looking forward to working with Anneke in this next chapter of her career and I know our supporters will join us in giving her a warm welcome here.”

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley added: “Anneke is a young goalkeeper with significant potential and we’re very pleased to bring her to the club.
“She has excellent qualities and will further strengthen our goalkeeper unit ahead of next season. We welcome Anneke to Arsenal and wish her every success here in North London.”
Borbe will face fierce competition to start against Daphne van Domselaar.
Van Domselaar started all three games for the Netherlands as they crashed out of Euro 2025 at the group stage.
Who is new Arsenal signing Anneke Borbe?
Anneke Borbe is a 24-year-old German goalkeeper who left VfL Wolfsburg at the end of last season.
She joined Wolfsburg from Werder Bremen in 2023 but only established herself as their first-choice in February of this year.
Borbe started all of the team’s remaining 14 games as they finished second in the league and were knocked out by Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
She made her senior debut with Werder Bremen aged 16 in February 2017 and made 77 appearances for the club. She helped Bremen win promotion to Germany’s top flight in 2020.
Borbe is yet to play for Germany’s senior side but has represented them for the youth teams.
What shirt number will Borbe wear?
Arsenal Women have confirmed that the German goalkeeper will wear the No.28 shirt at Arsenal for the 2025-26 season.
Borbe could be joined at Arsenal soon by Liverpool star Olivia Smith.
The 20-year-old Canadian is reportedly closing in on a £1m move to the Gunners – which would make her the first player in women’s football to move for this amount.
