When do the Women’s Scottish Premier League and Championship get underway?

Scottish league trophies

With the Euros now behind us domestic football’s return is fast approaching and the women’s Scottish leagues get underway early in August.

New format for women’s Scottish leagues

Just like the WSL and WSL2, the Scottish leagues are undergoing a revamp ahead of the new campaign.

The WSL expansion will see the top division in England increase from 12 teams to 14 from the 2025/26 season.

Scotland are making a change from their traditional system which had 12 teams in the league – which split off into two phases after everyone played each other twice.

The league isn’t ditching the second phase though, with the top division instead split into the top six and bottom four.

Six more games will be played between the top four after the split, while the bottom six play a total of ten extra games to determine relegation and the title winners respectively.

Relegation and promotion in Scotland will work the same as in the new-look WSL with the bottom team from the Premier League relegated and the top team from the Championship promoted.

Second from the championship will also face off with second bottom in the Premier League in a playoff with the winner earning the final spot in the top flight.
