The Manchester derby is coming up this weekend with Manchester City taking on United in the WSL. See here for how to watch the derby and what TV channel it’s on.

What TV channel is the Manchester derby on?

As one of the biggest games in the WSL calendar, it is no surprise that the Manchester derby is on a prime time slot.

Saturday afternoon’s game will be broadcast live and free for UK viewers on BBC One, BBC Sport Online and BBC iPlayer.

The game will be played at the Etihad Stadium with kick off at 13:30 GMT.

This is the first time City will play at the Etihad this season and they have just one other game at the ground when they face Chelsea at the beginning of February.

Why is the Manchester derby so important this year?

City facing off against United is always an important occasion, but this year the clash feels bigger than ever before.

Both teams from Manchester have kicked off their WSL campaigns to great success and it feels like this year could finally be the year that Chelsea are toppled as champions.

The Cityzens are closer to the six-time reigning champions in the table but the top five remains very close with just six points between the teams.

Andree Jeglertz’ team are comfortably the most in form team in England right now.

Having won their last seven league games, City have risen up the table and taken top spot off Chelsea – capitalising on a slip up by the champions against Arsenal last weekend when VAR was making headlines.

Saturday’s derby feels like it might be more important for United however, with the Red Devils four points behind their local rivals in the table.

United also slipped on matchday eight with a shock loss to Aston Villa handing them their first defeat of the season.

Marc Skinner’s side bounced back to form in Europe during the week with an important Champions League win against PSG on Mary Earps’ return to Old Trafford.

The advantage will be with City on Saturday playing at home, but it is impossible to discount Manchester United with how skinner has his team playing right now.
