West Ham United’s Oona Siren is hoping to bounce back from Euros disappointment to help the Hammers have a great Women’s Super League season.
The midfielder was part of the Finland squad at the summer’s 2025 Women’s Euros, playing every minute of her nation’s trio of matches in Group A.
The Finns were set to progress to the knockout stages until they conceded an equaliser against hosts Switzerland in additional time – sending them through instead.
Siren, however, has taken the positives from her first major international tournament.
“It was a really cool experience, and there was a great atmosphere in every game,” she told West Ham’s official website.
“Of course, how we went out of the tournament was disappointing for us, but after processing all that, it was a great experience.
“It was great to get a lot of playing time, and it was a nice experience. Of course there’s stuff you can do better, but overall I really enjoyed it.”
‘My goal is to get better every day’
The 24-year-old joined West Ham in September 2024 from LSK Kvinner in Norway, meaning she missed the Hammers’ pre-season last time round. However, she was already match-sharp due to the scheduling of the Norwegian summer league, and proceeded to make 26 appearances across all competitions as Rehanne Skinner’s side finished ninth out of 12th in the WSL.
“I really enjoyed last season,” added Siren. “It was so easy to come in because the players and staff are really good at welcoming every new player. It was easy to adapt, and it was great to get some minutes in my first season.
“My goal is to get better every day and help the team as much as possible.”
Oona Siren’s career path so far
Siren started her career in her hometown of Vantaa, playing for Tikkurilan Palloseura, better known as TiPS. She then moved to Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS), where she won two league titles as well as the Finnish Women’s Cup; her performances during this time also helped her get her senior international call-up. Siren signed for LSK Kvinner at the end of 2023, and made 19 appearances for them – including in the UEFA Women’s Champions League – before her switch to England.
West Ham coach Skinner has been full of praise for Siren, saying at the end of last season: “She gets around the pitch unbelievably well and out of possession, she’s given us a real energy in the centre of the park.
“She’s very unassuming and gets her head down and doesn’t really say a lot, but just does her job really, really well every single day.
“From a consistency level, that is so, so hard to do in this game, and she’s produced that week in, week out.”
