WEEE KICKS – Dalmain Athletic Girls FC

Maisie Newman of Dalmain Athletic Angels tells us all about her club which was the London FA’s Female Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2014.

What is your team name? Dalmain Angels

Do you play 5, 6, 7 or 11 aside? We play 7 a side

Does the team-have a nickname, if so, what is it? Angels – so we’ll have to continue being – and playing like – little angels.

What colours do you play in? Our A team colors are red/white and our B team colors are green/white.

What are your coach’s names? We have our Thursday night training coaches who are, Ali, Coleen, Laura and Charlie, but our main Head Coaches are Dave and Graham.

Do they have funny sayings or things they say a lot? Sometimes if we make a silly mistake we might get called a doughnut.;-)

What are the names of the girls on the team? The girls on the angels team include myself (Maisie), Ellie Mae”Messi”, Madison, Terri, Ciara, Julia and Alana, but we do swap around a lot so everybody gets a chance.

Are there any ‘stars’ in your team we should know about and why? I don’t think there is one star in the team cos we all have different strengths and skills and we all show our own star quality when playing a match.

Do you have a team song that you sing or that a lot of your team like? We don’t have a team song yet so we’ll all have to put our heads together and come up with one.

When do you train? Our training session is on a Thursday night, starting at 5.30 till 6.30.

What competitions do you play in and do you have to travel far for your games? We play in a lot of competitions at other schools. most are either community or FA cups, and they are all within reasonable travelling distance.

Who is the LOUDEST on the team? There isn’t just one loud person on the team, I think we’re all pretty loud when we need to be in a match.

Have you been to watch any senior women’s league, cup or international matches? If so, which and when? In October we were given the chance to go and watch England vs Germany. It was the first time I’d been to a proper match so I dont really have a favourite player just yet but it was an exciting experience and I’d definitely go again.

Why should readers check out news / results for your team? I think readers should follow us and our achievements because we are the only girls football club in Lewisham. It shows that it’s not just boys who play football but also young girls like ourselves also enjoy football and we’re just as good at it too.

We are on Facebook and twitter, so everybody get following.

We are hoping you will vote for us in the People’s Choice Category of the FA Community Awards.
