Freezing weather conditions and a yellow weather warning have caused havoc in the women’s football fixture calendar on the first weekend of 2026.

Perhaps the biggest game to fall to the weather is the clash between first and second in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier – Wolverhampton Wanderers’ trip to Burnley.

Wolves posted a statement on their social media at 11.30am on Sunday – two and a half hours ahead of the scheduled 2pm kick-off – confirming that the match had been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

“Despite raising our concerns with Burnley and the league yesterday with a yellow weather warning in place, we are disappointed that the decision has been made at this late stage, incurring unnecessary travel costs for both the club and our supporters,” read a statement on the club website.

Burnley’s own social media read: “Despite the best efforts of everybody involved, the pitch has been deemed unplayable as a result of the cold weather.”

All the other matches in the Northern Premier have also been postponed.

Matters are slightly brighter in the Southern Premier, though. All matches are on except for Lewes v Exeter City, which was called off on Saturday to avoid the away team potentially having a wasted journey, and AFC Wimbledon v Oxford United.

In the FA Women’s National League Division One North, the only game remaining is Stockport County v Chorley.

In Division One Midlands, all games are on, except Northampton Town v Kidderminster Harriers, Sheffield v Leafield Athletic, and Lincoln United v Peterborough United.

In Division One South East, all games are on, except Chesham United v Dulwich Hamlet, Luton Town v Cambridge United, and Norwich City v QPR.

And in Division One South West, all games are on, except Bristol Rovers v Bridgwater United, and Swindon Town v Abingdon United.

Weather: impact on Wales’s Genero Adran Premier

Wales’s top tier, the Genero Adran Premier, also recommences today after a short winter break. Two matches are off: Aberystwyth Town v Briton Ferry Llansawel, and Swansea City v The New Saints.

Barry Town United v Pontypridd United and Cardiff City v Wrexham are both still due to play as scheduled.
