We Kick – Chobham Burymead LFC

Chobham Burymead are currently second in the Greater London League Division 2 South, chasing back-to-back promotions with an incredible unbeaten run.

How did the club and particularly your team get started?
We formed in 2008 as Cobham Ladies FC. Last season we left Cobham and moved to Chobham Burymead FC to become their first ladies team.

Tell us your some of the players’ best nicknames and why they have them.
We haven’t really got any nicknames but welcome any suggestions!

Do you have a fairly-settled team?
Yes, we have four players that still play from the original team from 2008. We have around fourteen regular players but due to work commitments this number fluctuates. New members are always welcome, we are currently advertising to strengthen our team and squad.

How did the 2013/14 season go for you, what do you expect from 2014/15 and who are your biggest rivals?
The 2013/14 season was a very successful one for us. We won the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy and were also the Greater London League Division 3 South winners. We were promoted and currently are second in the Greater London League Division 2 South. There are some very good teams also challenging for division champions, including Clapham United Reserves, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Balham Panthers.

Tell us a top fact about your team:
The team are unbeaten in the League for over 18 months!

Who is your captain and tell us a bit about her?
Kelly Rideout is our Captain and has been playing for the team since 2008. She plays centre back and is a strong solid player, who always keeps her head in a tense game. Kelly used to play for Chelsea Girls.

What about your coach / manager – Are they serious, funny, good / bad and why?
Our Managers are Chris Palmer and Andy Bonner. They get very uptight when we’re playing but it is only because they want the best for the team. They are quite a comical double act.

Tell us a funny moment the team shared:
Probably the time when Chris Palmer tripped over a bag of footballs!

Who is the team’s jock (the fittest) and who is the joker?
The fittest has to be Bianca Underhill. Bianca can sprint from one end of the pitch to another in no time! The joker is probably Zoe Bonner, who continuously winds Chris Palmer up with her stories.

Does the team / club have an unsung hero?
All the parents that turn up every week in all weathers to watch the ladies.

Who is always first to the bar / on the dance floor on a night out?
All of them!!
