Wales were beaten 2-1 by France in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier, as Helen Ward made her 100th appearance.

Laura O’Sullivan got a touch on Kadidiatou Diani’s shot against the post, while Jess Fishlock could not take advantage with Pauline Peyraud-Magnin out of her goal.

Carrie Jones soon forced a save from the France keeper, however it was France who opened the scoring after the half-hour mark with Wendie Renard given a free header from a corner.

A dozen minutes after the restart, Marie-Antoinette Katoto charged down O’Sullivan’s attempted clearance for a simple finish.

Wales were back in the game with Sophie Ingle’s deflected drive from the edge of the box and shortly afterwards Gemma Evans headed home but from an offside position.
