Wales Win Bob Docherty Cup For First Time

They arrived at the tournament in Dublin as outsiders but showed a togetherness and skill level that the other home nations couldn’t live with, say welshfootballtrust.org.uk

After beating hosts Republic of Ireland on the first night, they beat Scotland to book a place at their first ever final.

The final, against Northern Ireland was settled in a dominant first half in which a quickfire double-salvo from Lucy Attwood and Phoebe Hampson was enough to put the game beyond their opponents.

The Northern Irish team fought hard in the second half but two great saves from keeper Grace Burke kept the two-goal cushion.

Team manager Matt Clement said: “It’s amazing to see the girls’ faces. What we’ve achieved together this week is just fantastic.

“At the start of the week we knew we had a very tough group but the girls have performed brilliantly and grown in confidence through the week.”
