Hungary opened the scoring through Fanni Vachter minutes after a promising Wales free kick from Anna Morphet.
Hungary extended their lead with a string of goals from Dóra Dorner and Vivien Pintye providing a 3-0 lead within the first quarter.
Wales were quick to respond with opportunities from Emily Jones, Bronwen Thomas and Elise Hughes but were unable to convert their efforts onto the scoresheet.
Hungary opened the second half with another goal before Wales’ Cassia Pike fought back with a consolation goal.
Denied chances from Emily Jones and Morphet proved a little to late as Wales succumbed to a 4-1 loss at Penydarren Park.
Wales face Hungary again on Thursday, 16 February (11am at Merthyr Town FC) for their final international friendly ahead of the UEFA U-17 Championship Elite Round in March.
Wales Assistant Manager, Rehanne Skinner, told faw.cymru: “It’s not our best performance in terms of our shape and how we went about the game compared to the preparation that we’ve done previously.
“It’s a huge eye opener for them. We’ve not had a lot of contact time with them since we qualfied. We’ve got to make sure our shape is working effectively. There were times today where that didn’t happen and it certainly wasn’t to the level we were performing at when we were in Latvia.
“We were much better in the second half but there are lots of areas to improve on. There are some players in the group that did a very good job, Grace Burke in particular. We have to make sure everyone, across the whole squad is on the same page, I don’t think everyone was today.
“These friendly fixtures are vital. This game is exactly what they need. It’s been a good test and Thursday will give us another opportunity to work on this, fix the things that we need to fix and get back on the pitch and hope for a better result.”
