Wales are ‘playing catch-up’ ahead of Euro 2025 according to technical director

Technical Director of Wales Football, Dave Adams, has admitted that the Football Association of Wales (FAW) is playing catch-up to a lot of nations ahead of Euro 2025.

Although they have booked a spot in Switzerland’s Championship this summer there is still a lot of work to do for women’s football in Wales.

Speaking before qualification was secured, FAW technical director Dave Adams said: “We’ve definitely got a lot more equality. We’re doing a lot of catch-up in this space and I think we didn’t invest proportionally on both sides.

“All I can say now is that we’re doing that and we hope that we can make quick progress in this space… and that’s what we’re trying to do really is to make sure we can consistently qualify for major tournaments.”

Wales is one women’s national team that is still behind the rest of Europe with their project but it comes as no surprise, with no team officially affiliated alongside the FAW until 1994.

This year Wales Women will make history at the Euros, as they prepare to take part in their first ever major tournament.

The FAW recently came under criticism for the new Wales kits that were released for the Euros, with personalisation of the jersey’s not available yet.

Who is in Wales’ Euro 2025 group?

While they have qualified for Euro 2025 this summer, competing in the tournament is another story altogether.

Wales have been drawn in one of the toughest groups this summer and they will come up against England as well as France and the Netherlands in Group D.

Although England slipped in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings before Euro 2025, at fifth in the world they still remain 25 spots ahead of Wales.

Both the Dutch and French sit just outside the top 10 in the world so this summer’s tournament could be a tough one for the Dragons, who are clear outsiders to advance from the group stage.
