VISA announced as sponsor of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup

The inaugural women’s FIFA Champions Cup will be sponsored by VISA, as confirmed on the eve of the semi finals.

VISA has picked up the naming rights for all of the individual awards at the tournament.

The player of the tournament and player of the match awards will both be presented by VISA, with the sponsor also advertised across the semi finals and final.

VISA took up the role as competition sponsor very late in the day. The lack of other sponsorship shows a continued issue in women’s football, as the sport struggles to get recognised brands for the biggest tournaments.

The credit card company already sponsors major tournaments in football and was an obvious resolution with no other choices to sponsor the Champions Cup.

What tournaments do VISA sponsor?

  • FIFA World Cup
  • FIFA Women’s Champions Cup
  • UEFA Women’s Football:
  • CAF (Africa Cup of Nations)
  • FIFA Women’s World Cup

Arsenal play AS FAR on Wednesday night in the semi-finals. The semis take place at Brentford’s GTech Community Stadium.

Gotham FC play Corinthians in the other semi final which takes place before the Arsenal game at GTech.

VISA signs new landmark deal

Following the announcement, FIFA’s chief football officer Jill Ellis spoke on the pride of welcoming VISA to the competition.

“We are delighted to welcome Visa as a global sponsor for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, a tournament that brings together the best clubs from each confederation on a truly global stage.

“This competition is set to redefine perceptions of women’s club football, and we are proud to rely on Visa’s continued commitment to innovation and impact at this pivotal moment in the women’s game.”

The winners of this week’s semi-finals will face off on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium in the final.
