All the goals came in the last quarter of an hour or so, with Aston Villa twice equalising to prevent the Vixens going level on points again with leaders Yeovil Town.
Jodie Brett broke the deadlock in the 75th minute from 25 yards out.
Substitute Tash Baptiste made a quick impact as she replied on 84 minutes, only for Charlie Estcourt to restore the lead within seconds.
Merrick then got a dramatic equaliser 4 minutes into added time with a glancing header.
She commented; “When you are playing a top team like Bristol you want to come out of the game with something, and there’s no better feeling than scoring so late. It felt like scoring a winner rather than the equaliser.”
