UWCL: Man City Women and Rangers reach group finals

Manchester City and Rangers both made the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 1 group finals, likewise Shelbourne while Glentoran missed out on penalties.

Champions path

Group 1: Shelbourne edged Pomurje Beltinci with Heather O’Reilly getting the only goal after just four minutes. They will meet Valur in the group final, who beat Hayasa 2-0.

Group 2: Rangers defeated Ferenecvaros 3-1 aided by

Group 3: Vorskla Kharkiv 5-0 Lanchkuhti, BIIK-Shymkent 5-1 Split

Group 4: FC Zurich 6-0 KI Klasnik, SFK Riga 0-3 Appolon

Group 5: Anderlecht 3-2 UKS SMS Łódź , Gintra 0-2 Kups Kuopio

Group 6: Juventus 4-0 Racing FC Union Luxembourg, Flora Tallinn 0-5 Qiryat Gat

Group 7: Glentoran played out a goalless draw with Romania’s Olimpia Cluj before being pipped 4-2 on penalties.  The Irish side now play Birkirkara, beaten 4-0 by SFK 2000 Sarajevo.

Group 8: FC Twente 13-0 Agarista CSF Anenii Noi, Benfica 9-0 Hajvalia

Group 9: Dinamo-BSUPC 5-0 Lokomotiv Stara Zagora, St.Pölten 7-0 Ljuboten

Group 10: Breznica Pljevlja 2-3 Spartak Myjava. Finalists – Vllaznia

Group 11: SK Brann 1-0 ALG Spor. Finalists – Spartak Subotica

League path

Group 1: Glasgow City twice went behind to efforts from AS Roma’s Benedetta Glionna, an own-goal by Paloma Lázaro later putting the visitors 3-1 up. City will now face Servette for third place, who went down 3-0 to Paris FC.

Group 2: FC Minsk 2-1 Slovácko, Breidablik 2-4 Rosenborg

Group 3: Ajax 3-1 Kristianstad, Fortuna Hjørring 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Group 4: Manchester City hit Tomiris-Turan for six, Khadija Shaw bagging a brace in the first quarter of the game, Lauren Hemp getting the third o half-time, before three late goals from Vicky Losada, Deyna Castellanos (penalty) and an own-goal. City’s opponents in their group final are Real Madrid, who also won 6-0 over Sturm Graz.

The group finals and third-place play-offs take place on Sunday 21 August, with the winners of each final progressing to Round 2, to compete for the last 12 slots in the group stage alongside Lyon, Barcelona, Chelsea and Wolfsburg.
