UWCL: Arsenal Women held, Rangers narrowly beaten in Round 2 1st Leg

UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2 1st leg scores saw Arsenal held at home by Ajax and Rangers narrowly beaten by Benfica.

Romée Leuchter opened the scoring for Ajax but Arsenal levelled midway through the first half through Stina Blackstenius. Kim Little gave the Gunners the lead from a penalty close to the hour mark but with seven minutes remaining, Leuchter netted her second of the night to earn the Dutch side a draw. The second leg is at De Toekomst on Wednesday 28 September, kick-off 6pm UK time.

Kayla McCoy put Rangers one up against Benfica after 25 minutes at Ibrox but Ana Vitória equalised and then gave her side the advantage after the interval. Although McCoy quickly replied, Victoria Esson’s own-goal with a dozen minutes left meant victory for the visitors. The return will be played at the Benfica Campus next Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Maddie Pokorny’s early goal for Køge was cancelled out before the half-hour by Amanda Nilden, as Juventus drew their away leg.

Lea Schüller’s goal on half-time gave Bayern Munich victory away to Real Sociedad.
