Durham Women’s Sarah Wilson, Beth Hepple and Ellie Christon have all agreed to remain with the Wildcats until 2023.

Wilson was a key part of the defence that registered the joint-best defensive record in the second tier, also becoming only the second player in the club’s history to hit the 150 appearance landmark.

Wilson said: “We keep on getting stronger every season and I’m fully confident that we can go all the way. We had an incredible season, our best to date.

“I know we have more to give as a group and it’s really exciting to see what we can achieve together.”

Manager Lee Sanders commented: “Sarah is such an important player and leader within the team. She lives and breathes the culture of the club, is a role model to her peers in the team – and no doubt in the league itself – and we’re delighted she will be spending a few more years here.”

Top scorer in 2020/21, attacking midfielder Beth Hepple is also the club’s record appearance holder.

Commenting on her new contract, Hepple said: “I’m over the moon to be staying. It’s such an exciting time to be a Durham player and I can’t wait for pre season to begin. I think we have a very strong group which I fully believe in, and we really want to progress from last season and go one better.

Sanders commented: “Beth has been possibly the best attacking and creative player in the league over the last few years. She’s part of the fabric of Durham and it’s superb she has committed her immediate future to the club.”

Full-back, Ellie Christon, is closing in on her 150th appearance for the Wildcats.

Christon said: “I love this team and the club, so it would be amazing to see us go all the way this season and get promotion. I think we definitely have what it takes to do get promoted and compete against the very best every week. Having been with the club since the start, I would absolutely love to see the club get to the WSL.”

Sanders commented: “Ellie is a consummate professional and an athlete in every sense of the word. She is arguably the best full-back in the league and is a huge re-signing for the club.”
