Sweden’s capital city Gothenburg went football crazy this July as 1,661 football teams from around the world visited the city to try and get their hands on one of amateur football’s most sought after title, the Gothia Cup.

In 2015 and 2016, girls’ teams made up over 25% of these teams and 2017 looks like it’s set to be ‘all about the girls’, as the tournament organisers are seeing an influx of girls’ teams registering.

Will 2017 see a record high number of girls’ teams? We hope so! Will your team be a part of it? You can’t afford not to be!

The tournament welcomes teams from across the globe to compete in classes ranging from Under 11s (new for 2017) up to Under 18s, as well as an Under 17s Girls Elite Class.

With over 50 years’ experience in operating tailor-made tours, Rayburn Tours has always seen a pattern of more tours being booked for boys’ teams compared to those booked for girls’, but it seems the gap is closing!

Michael Varley, Sports Tours Manager at Rayburn Tours, says, “Youth teams should travel regardless of gender, which is why we provide international experiences to a range of destinations that offer equal opportunities for boys, girls, men and women, giving teams the opportunity to play competitive and challenging fixtures.”

By using a sports tour operator like Rayburn Tours, you take the hassle out of organising your journey to the Gothia Cup – they’ll arrange accommodation, travel and meals on your behalf. With Rayburn Tours also being an ABTA Bonded and ATOL licensed company, you can be rest assured that you have full financial security when booking your trip.

But what about your players’ safety? Rayburn Tours have ticked all the safety boxes, plus with personal travel insurance provided by their partner Endsleigh Insurance Services, your squad will be fully insured whilst taking part in the tournament. The great news about all of this? You can sit back and just focus on the football!

Michael Varley says, “teams travelling to the tournament from the UK is on the rise and we are so pleased to be able to use our years of experience in creating unforgettable sports tours to provide them with the full travel package which allows them to not only enjoy the tournament, but the spectacular city and all it has to offer.”
