Tottenham Win FAWPL Championship Play-Off

Sunday 28th May
FA PREMIER LEAGUE
CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY-OFF
Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Blackburn Rovers (Att: 826)

Tottenham had the first chance on goal after 20 minutes at The Valley, with Jenna Schillaci’s corner coming out to Ronnell Humes, who dipped a volley inches over.

Rovers almost took the lead themselves shortly after but Saffron Jordan could only toe-poke an Ella Toone pass inches wide of the post.

It was Spurs who broke the deadlock 9 minutes before the break, as Wendy Martin played Bianca Baptiste in behind the defence and she rolled a shot across goal and in off the post.

The lead was nearly quickly doubled but Martin skewed the ball wide from around the penalty spot and then went very close from a Baptiste cross.

Blackburn were denied by the woodwork when Toone headed across to Jordan, who crashed an attempt off the post.

Spurs got the all important second goal of the game midway through the second half, when Josie Green sent Humes away, who found Baptiste to fire in.

With time running out for Rovers, Ellie Stewart went close with a header but it was Spurs who scored again in the final minute of stoppage-time, Martin lobbing Danielle Hill from 25 yards.

With the FAWPL crown now secured, Spurs will keenly await ratification of their promotion to WSL 2, which kicks off in September.
