Tottenham vs Aston Villa preview
Following a quick start to their season, Tottenham were given a harsh reality check over the weekend with a 5-1 loss to Manchester City.
Spurs captain Bethany England was fired up after the City thrashing and could retain her spot in the lineup despite resting others in the cup.
The loss will have Spurs fired up for the first round of the League Cup as they look to progress further than the quarter final stage which they reached last season.
Despite losing to City, Martin Ho’s team have looked impressive in the rest of their WSL games so far.
Other than the five they conceded over the weekend Tottenham have kept two clean sheets in two games this year.
Aston Villa have had a lengthy rest since their last game after their clash against Liverpool was postponed over the weekend.
The Clarets are still winless to start the campaign after a loss to Chelsea and a draw on opening day against Brighton.
Even after a slow start to the season Aston Villa will be confident they can get a positive result from their first game in the League Cup this season.
These teams have a very close record in the head to head matchup. Villa have won five games and Spurs have won six with four draws between the sides.
Tottenham vs Aston Villa Team news
Both teams are expected to make vast changes to their previous WSL lineups for the cup this week.
Olivia Holdt scored a screamer against Chelsea last time out and could earn a spot in the starting lineup as a reward.

Maite Oroz, Josefine Rybrink and Matilda Vinberg joined Holdt off the bench and could all push for a start against Aston Villa.
As for Villa, with a thin squad it will be hard for the Clarets to make too many wholesale changes.
The team was only able to name seven players on its bench against Chelsea. All of the subs could be handed a start this week with the likes of Georgia Mullett, Lucia Kendall, Miri Taylor and Sarah Mayling all sure to be involved.
Predicted lineups
Tottenham: Kop; Rybrink, Koga, Hunt, Nilden; Summanen, Oroz; Vinberg, England, Holdt; Tandberg
Aston Villa: Kelly; Wilms, Patten, Mayling, Grant, Martiz; Taylor, Kendall, Daly, Hanson, Mullett.
Tottenham vs Aston Villa prediction
With both teams expected to make a whole host of changes for the cup game it is hard to call a winner.
Aston Villa lack the depth that Spurs have however and that might just give the hosts an edge.
We are backing Tottenham to just scrape past Aston Villa in the first League Cup game but a close affair can be expected.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa
