Tottenham are reportedly pushing to sign Norwegian international Julie Blakstad from Hammarby.

Julie Blakstad set for WSL return

Women’s football reporter Mauro Munno has reported that Tottenham have shown a strong interest in Julie Blakstad.

The 24-year-old previously played in the WSL for Manchester City between January 2022 and January 2024, when she left for her current club Hammarby.

The Swedish domestic football season recently finished, with Hammarby ending the season second behind BK Hacken.

Blakstad is available on a free transfer and has attracted interest across Europe after her stunning performances for Hammarby in 2025.

Should Blakstad arrive at Tottenham in January, she would be their second signing, after the arrival of Signe Gaupset on January 1st, 2026, was previously announced.

Who is Julie Blakstad?

Blakstad is a versatile player who can play anywhere down the left flank for Tottenham.

During the 2025 season, she has predominantly played as a left-back, but she has also been used in midfield and as a left-sided attacker.

Blakstad scored an incredible 15 goals in the Damallsvenskan during the 2025 season. This figure was only surpassed by strikers Felicia Schroder (30), Ellen Wangerheim (17) and Sara Kanutte Fornes (17).

This led to her being named as the league’s Defender of the Year.

During her two years in Manchester, Blakstad struggled to become a regular under former manager Gareth Taylor, and was loaned out to BK Hacken.

In total, she scored 10 goals in 36 appearances for Manchester City, helping them win the Continental Cup in March 2022.

Blakstad has also scored three goals in 31 appearances for Norway. She was included in their Euro 2022 and 2023 Women’s World Cup squads; however, she was controversially snubbed by Gemma Grainger from Norway’s Euro 2025 squad.

The Norwegian might not be the only player to leave Hammarby for north London in January. Arsenal have been linked with Swedish right-back Smilla Holmberg.

Tottenham have shown improvement under Martin Ho

Tottenham have shown improvement on the pitch under new manager Martin Ho, as well as big ambitions off the field.

Spurs are fifth in the Women’s Super League table and level on points with Arsenal, who sit one place above them.

Tottenham have already spent £378,000 to bring Gaupset to the club on January 1st. Gaupset is a player that Ho knows well from their time together at SK Brann.

He could now be set to bring in Gaupset’s Norway teammate Blakstad, who has shown big signs of improvement from the player who struggled to break into the starting XI at Manchester City.

Tottenham return to action in the WSL on Sunday when they host Aston Villa. Ho’s side also face Manchester United in the WSL and the Women’s League Cup before the winter break.
