Tottenham have reportedly agreed a deal in principle with SK Brann to sign Norwegian sensation Signe Gaupset in a record-breaking transfer.
The 20-year-old, who was nominated for the Golden Girl award, has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe in recent years.
Gaupset was described as a “sensation” after starring for Brann against Lyon in the Champions League during the 2023-24 season.
She was also a breakout star during the Euro 2025 championship, scoring a brace in their dramatic 4-3 win over Iceland.
It was reported earlier this month that Tottenham had held talks over a month for Gaupset ahead of the January transfer window.
A move for Gaupset would be seen as a major coup for Tottenham, as she is seen as one of Europe’s brightest young prospects and due to the level of interest in her.
Tottenham look to sign Signe Gaupset in record deal
Norwegian publication Nettavisen have reported that Tottenham and SK Brann have agreed a deal in principle for Signe Gaupset.
The Women’s Super League club are set to pay a package exceeding five million Norwegian Krone (£378,000), a record fee for a player leaving the Norwegian Toppserien.
The current record is held by Julie Blakstad, who joined Manchester City from Rosenborg for £150,000 in 2022.
Gaupset extended her contract with Brann less than a year ago. However, it was always going to prove difficult for the Norwegian club to keep hold of one of Europe’s brightest young stars.
Brann reportedly rejected several bids for Gaupset in the previous transfer window.
Gaupset has already potentially played her last game for Bergen-based SK Brann. She received her fourth yellow card of the season during their last match against Stabaek, and will have to serve a suspension in their final league match of the 2025 season against Bodo/Glimt.
The 20-year-old recently stated that she plans to leave Brann at the end of the season.
However, final paperwork needs to be completed before the move is made official.
Gaupset set to reunite with Tottenham boss Martin Ho
Gaupset’s expected transfer to Tottenham was one that had looked on the cards ever since Martin Ho made the switch from SK Brann to the WSL club in the summer.
Ho is a big fan of Gaupset and was in the stands when SK Brann played Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village in the Champions League back in September.
Speaking to Norwegian publication BA, Ho said: “I enjoy working with her, she is a fantastic person and player. We have achieved a lot together in a short time.
“She has many opportunities in England and abroad because of her talent. Whatever she does next, I will support her. I want to make sure she has a fantastic career.”
Who is Signe Gaupset?
Gaupset has been viewed as a rising star of the women’s football scene ever since her breakthrough in 2022.
During the 2022 Norwegian Women’s Cup final, she scored a brace for SK Brann in a 3-1 victory over Stabaek.
In the 2023-24 season at the age of 18, she scored a last-minute equaliser for Brann against Lyon in the Women’s Champions League, showing her ability to rise to the biggest occasion.
She was handed her senior international debut by British head coach Gemma Grainger in February 2024 and would go on to make the Euro 2025 squad, where she enjoyed a breakthrough tournament.
Gaupset was nominated for the Golden Girl award, which was won by England’s Michelle Agyemang.
She now looks set to join a Tottenham side who have made great strides under new coach Ho this season.
Tottenham are fifth in the WSL, level with rivals Arsenal on 15 points. After eight games, they are just five points shy of their total from the entire 2024-25 season.
