Toni Duggan Joins Barcelona

England striker Toni Duggan makes the move from one Champions League semi-finalist to another.

The 25-year-old recently helped Man City to the semi-finals of the Champions League in their inaugural season in the competition, scoring a crucial wondergoal in the last 16 tie at Brondby, which went on to win the Club’s Nissan Goal of the Season award.

The striker made 74 appearances during her stay in Manchester, scoring 31 goals.

Six of those goals came in 2016, as City claimed a league and cup double. Duggan famously converted a penalty to hand City the title against reigning champions Chelsea.

She scored four in the Spring Series campaign – including a hat-trick at Bristol City – and created an assist in the FA Cup final win over Birmingham at Wembley.

On her move, Duggan told fcbarcelona.cat: “FC Barcelona for me is the biggest club in the world and I wanted to come here and be part of it. I have had many successes in England and I want to have more. I think I need more than one trophy under my belt and I was told that the club’s ambition is to win the Champions League – it’s mine as well. ”

“I’m looking forward to a new challenge. Of course, FC Barcelona is known worldwide for their attractive football, and I think it fits well with my style. To see the facilities and meet the people has excited me and I cannot wait to start. ”
