Australia and China will join South Korea and Vietnam in the Asian Football Confederation Women’s qualifying play-off round for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

China progressed when beating Chinese Taipei 5-0 in Sydney, where Wang Shanshan bagged a brace.

Australia went one better against Thailand but the game had been goalless until just before the break. Emily van Egmond then grabbed a quickfire double, with Kyah Simon and Everton’s Hayley Raso adding one each.

The Matildas and Steel Roses clash on Thursday, with the group winners going on to play Vietnam over two legs (6 & 11 March), while the second-placed side will face South Korea on the same dates.

Chelsea’s Ji So-yun had sealed South Korea’s top spot in their 3rd Round qualifying group as they defeated Vietnam 3-0. A narrow win for Vietnam over Myanmar was enough to send them through in second, with North Korea withdrawing.
