Preston crucially won their penultimate game away to Stoke in the top of the table clash. North End scored twice in a 10-minute spell midway through the second half, Yasmine Swarbrick tapping in after Chatlotte Farrell’s free kick hit the bar and Lagam Makin making it 2-0, before a late reply from Hannah Keryakoplis.
Blackburn were held 2-2 in a dramatic encounter in which Bradford had a red card and three penalties. Rovers’ keeper Danielle Hill conceded a spot-kick but then saved it, with team-mate Sophie Jones opening the scoring before the hour mark. City were down to 10 after a foul on Hill, who was then called upon to save a second penalty but a third was awarded instantly and this time converted. The hosts then took the lead but Lynda Shepherd replied immediately.
Nottingham Forest’s hopes were hit with a suprise 1-0 loss to a second-half effort at Newcastle, who had shipped 7 goals at home last week.

Sporting Club Albion continued their climb with a 2-1 success at Derby and are up a couple of places to fourth. But they had to come from behind, Leigh Dugmore levelling by the break and netting a penalty on 59 minutes.
Huddersfield are safe following a late winner at lowly Loughborough Foxes, Katie Barnes scoring in the 92nd minute.
Nuneaton are out of the relegation zone at Guiseley’s expense, after defeating them 4-2 with goals from Nicola Foskett (2), Sarah Rowles and Kayleigh Steele, while Leah Jones and Katie Anderton were on target for the Vixens.
Brighton swiftly snuffed out a Tottenham fightback to secure the Southern Division crown in their last match and book a place in the Championship Final at Wycombe on May 29th, with promotion to WSL 2 at stake. Amy Taylor scored in first half stoppage-time, Bianca Baptiste vame off the bench to almost immediately level, before Taylor won it 14 minutes from time.
Coventry went third with a 2-1 victory over C&K Basildon, despite trailing at half-time to a Zoe Rushen goal. United struck twice in 7 minutes early in the second half through Amber Hughes and an own-goal.
Lewes rose to eighth with a good 1-0 result away to Portsmouth. Tash Wells goal on 38 minutes proved to be sufficient.
West Ham finished tenth with a goalless draw at QPR, in which both sides had their chances but were unable to find the net.
Relegated Plymouth and Forest Green tied 1-1, Dani Salt scoring for Argyle when following up Katie Middleton’s free kick but Rovers replied through Annie Martin and the visitors were later denied by the bar.
Radcliffe dropped points in the battle for the Midlands runners-up spot, held 1-1 by Steel City. Birmingham & West Midlands gained ground with a 2-1 win at Leicester City Ladies (Annie Pritchard and Gemma Mooney their scorers) and Wolves did likewise with a similar scoreline at Peterborough, Jade Cross getting her second with a thumoing last-minute effort after a Cassie Steward equaliser. Leafield remain just above the drop zone, seeing Michelle McCormack red-carded just 2 minutes in, afterwhich Rotherham got four goals by the interval. Basement side Sporting Khalsa banked a second victory, sending Loughborough Students home beaten 3-1.
Middlesbrough won Northern Division 1 in style with a game to spare. While they were hitting hosts Mossley for six, Liverpool Marshalls Feds were sent crashing to a 4-0 home defeat by a much improved Chester-le-Street. Chorley shared 6 goals with Stockport who have some battling yet to be safe but came back from 3-1 down, Hanifa Douglas bagging a brace and Beth Langford the other. Leeds were 2-0 winners over relegated Norton, Emma Bentley adding a penalty to Jasmine Saxton’s opener. Tranmere held third-placed Hull 1-1 for the second successive Sunday, as they continue their bid to get out of the bottom two. It might have been a win this time but Emily Smith brought the Tigers level.
Crystal Palace are closing in on the South East top spot after a 5-0 win against Norwich, while there only likely challengers lost. Alma Donohe’s goal was the only difference at the break but Gemma Bryan added a couple and Pam McRoberts was also no the scoresheet. Gillingham led after 3 minutes through Jade Keogh but went down 2-1 at home to MK Dons, who maybe second but can only mathematically catch the Eagles. Ipswich moved into the top half with a 2-1 win at Old Actonians, Aimme Harrison and Roxanne Small scoring. The West London side are almost safe though, as Lowestoft lost an interval lead to go down 3-1 to Denham, for whom Lauren Cox and Helen Capewell netted. Cambridge sent Bedford down with an 9-0 thrashing, Paige Logie leading the way with a hat-trick.
Chichester are the new leaders in the South West having won 3-0 at Shanklin, where there was a goal each for Shannon Albuery, Chloe Dowdell and Chloe Parkes. City are goal-difference ahead of both Swindon and Larkhall, the latter having drawn 1-1 with Keynsham, who are 3 points behind with 2 games in hand. St Nicholas doubled their wins tally with a 3-1 success against Cheltenham to go level on poinst with Shanklin, Jade Gamlin getting a first-half treble.
