TITLE ‘MEANS THE WORLD’ TO BORO

We spoke with Middlesbrough captain Jade Ridley, after her side clinched the FA Premier League Northern Division 1 title last Sunday with a 6-0 win at Mossley Hill, while their title rivals suffered a surprise home defeat.

SK: Was it a surprise to seal the titlhttp://www.shekicks.net/admin/blog/postse on Sunday?

JR: We were all so focused on our game and the 3 points that it was a surprise. We thought it would go down to the last game and we didn’t want to rely on [Liverpool] Feds slipping up. Judging the current form of ourselves and Chester, we knew it was a possibility. When looking at the fixtures months back, we said that Chester le street would do us a favour and they did.

SK: You could say two goals in the opening 10 minutes set the tone for the day?

JR: Although it was a must-win game, I feel like we were relaxed, in good spirit and we started with intent. Two goals in ten minutes is a great start but we kept our composure, worked hard and applied pressure to Mossley Hill. We were clinical in front of goal and that shows with the scoreline. We have to give credit to Mossley Hill, as they didn’t give up.

SK: How did you hear about the Liverpool Feds defeat and what was the response?

JR: We were all in the changing rooms getting changed and wondering how the Chester v Feds game went. Lindsey [Stephenson – manager] was waiting for the league to update on the website. All of a sudden she shouted ‘Chester beat Feds 4-0′ and we all went wild. A few of us contacted people to confirm and as each phone call or text came through, we celebrated even more. The celebrations began………..Champions!!!!!! Take a look at the video on our Facebook page. I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life.

SK: What does it mean to the team to be up in the FAWPL top divisions?

JR: It means a great deal to everyone, especially to the players who have been at the club for years. All the hard work has played off. When I joined this club, Lindsey had a plan. To finish in top 5 last season and promotion this season and we have done it. It’s amazing. I have never had a feeling like it. The team has developed so much in that time. We have an amazing set up, management, coaches (aka the bosses, ha-ha) and some quality young players coming through the club. Together we have all worked hard to get this title and it means the world. It’s an amazing time to be part of the club and the support has been brilliant.

SK: What are you looking forward to most, playing Newcastle perhaps?

JR: First of all we continue the work, play our final game to finish the league. Then we lift the cup and celebrate. It’s going be a great moment. It’s an amazing time to be part of this club. When our feet final hit the ground we will continue to build throughout pre-season, work harder and aim higher. It will be great for everyone to play at the next level and against the likes of Newcastle
