Thackley were last Sunday confirmed as West Riding League Division 3 champions, the achievement coming in their very first season.

The decisive win was away to Tyersal, who have been the only side to deny Thackley victory to date and that was way back on the opening day of the campaign.

Meg Butterworth got an early opener from Taylor Rushworth’s through ball, top scorer Lois Cooper soon doubled the lead from distance and Kath Connell made it 3-o by half time.

Three more goals followed in the last quarter of an hour, as Hannah Wolstenholme’s cross was headed home by Rushworth and Cooper got two more to complete her hat-trick, taking her tally to 26 for the season.

The 6-0 scoreline not only lifted the Denny Girls beyond Tyersal’s reach but also out of the grasp of second-placed Ilkley Town.

Thackley are also in the League Cup semi-finals but face a massive task against Tingley Athletic, who have won all their matches in the Premier Division.

The tie is being played at Wakefield Road Recreation Ground in Dewsbury on 4th Match, when Farsley Celtic face Ripon City in the other semi-final at Thackley AFC.
