The Olympic Women’s Group E decider saw a late Caroline Weir leveller give Great Britain top spot ahead of Canada.

The first half produced few opportunities and when Lauren Hemp had a close-range chance, Stephanie Labbé turned it over the crossbar.

An Ellie Roebuck ball out went straight to Adriana Leon and although her weak shot was blocked by Millie Bright, she soon swept Canada ahead following a run and cross from Ashley Lawrence.

Caroline Weir was desperately close to an equaliser but her shot from an acute angle hit the underside of the bar and far post.

Weir did get luck on her side with six minutes left though, a 25-yard deflected strike from the Scot finding the far corner of the net.

Next up for Great Britain is Friday’s quarter-final against Australia, kick off 10am UK time.
