SWPL17 Launched

With all 16 clubs from SWPL 1 and 2 in attendance, the message was clear: 2017 will be the most important year for the women’s game ever, says the SWF (Scottish Women’s Football).

From newly promoted East Fife and Motherwell, to the Scottish League Champions Glasgow City, the players and coaches were in positive spirits looking forward to the next round of the League Cup and the Euros this Summer.

Vivienne MacLaren, Chair of SWF said: “Every year we see more and more women and girls playing football. The amazing work carried out by players, coaching staff and volunteers has meant there has been a tremendous improvement in the game year on year, which is wonderful.”

The call to action from the team at Scottish Women’s Football is to urge supporters to go and see a game live this season.

By driving footfall to the games they hope to also encourage growth in investment, which will in turn help the clubs.

With International Women’s Day 2017 theme being #BeBoldForChange, SWF believe fans can champion that message by supporting their local team by volunteering or cheering them on from the stands.

The new season kicks off this Sunday, 12th March, with the following fixtures:

SWPL 1
Aberdeen v Spartans (Heathryford Park)
Hamilton Academical v Celtic (Hamilton Academical FC)
Glasgow City v Stirling University (Airdrie FC)
Rangers v Hibernian (New Tinto Park)

SWPL 2
Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale v Glasgow Girls (Peffermill)
Forfar Farmington v East Fife (Forfar Athletic FC)
