#SWPL17 Fixtures Announced

The fixtures for the 2017 Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 & 2 seasons have been announced, as it looks set to be another exciting and action packed year.

With eight teams in each division, each side will play each other three times to complete the 21 allocated games each.

In SWPL 1, the first set of fixtures, to be played on the 12th of March, have already thrown up a number of interesting games. Newly promoted Hamilton Accies will host Celtic, who have already strengthened their side as they look to challenge for a Champions League place.

The top two from last year, who claimed those spots, will also have tough tests as reigning champions Glasgow City host Stirling University and Hibernian travel away to Rangers. In the other fixture, Aberdeen host Edinburgh side Spartans.

Based on last year, Glasgow City and Hibs will continue to be huge games in terms of the title landscape. They’ll first face off on the 7th of May and their final fixture falls on the last day of the season. This could well be the match to decide the league winners, as previous years have shown the importance of this final fixture between the sides.

Last year’s most competitive league within the entire Scottish Women’s Football, SWPL 2, ooks set to continue with that title in 2017. Forfar Farmington, who were relegated from SWPL 1, will provide a tough test and newly promoted sides East Fife and Motherwell are also looking strong. With title contenders Hearts and Glasgow Girls still in the division, it could be even more competitive this season.

The first set of fixtures have thrown up some fascinating ties, with Forfar Farmington hosting East Fife for both sides first match in their SWPL 2 history. Motherwell host Jeanfield Swifts, Hearts take on Buchan, and newly merged Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale will take on Glasgow Girls FC.
