SWPL: Six-goal Celtic Women go second

Celtic hit Hamilton Academical for six to go second in the Scottish Women’s Premier League on goal-difference.

Jacynta Galabadaarachchi scored in either half for Celtic, who were four up at the break. Clarissa Larisey, Shen Menglu, Chloe Craig and Olivia Fergusson all found the net once. Celtic sit just behind leaders Rangers but went above Glasgow City, with the leading trio having won their opening five games.

Motherwell went fifth with a four-goal victory over Glasgow Women, Carla Boyce bagging a brace, Amy Anderson and Lori Gardner also on target.

Spartans are up to sixth following a 2-0 defeat of Aberdeen despite having Hannah Jordan dismissed, before Alana Marshall and Becky Galbraith scored.

Kilmarnock edged out St Johnstone on penalties after being deadlocked at 2-2. Mhairi Crooks gave Killie the lead after the Saints skipper was sent off, Morgan Steedman scored twice to turn the game in their favour, only for the hosts to equalise and force the shoot-out.

Stirling University came from behind to go through 4-1 at Montrose, Emma Kennedy, Holly Watson, Shana McPhail among the goals.

Gartcairn also fought back to progress in the competition, Lauren Kerr, Ami Robertson and Dionne Brown finding the net in the second half after Boroughmuir’s early opener.

A third comeback saw Queen’s Park eliminate East Fife 5-1, Nicole Cairney, Abby Callaghan, Lia Tweedie and an Ellie Kane double completing the scoring by the break.
