A 7-1 thrashing of Swindon Supermarine on 12th February sealed the Wiltshire Premier League title, just weeks after the Spitfires Development side clinched the League One trophy.
Swinson Spitfires started the match like they meant business and in the first minute were ahead as Laura Stallard’s cross was fired in by Sarah Stacey, who soon headed on for Natalia Wilson to power home the second.
They continued to pile on the pressure but had to wait until the 40th minute when Wilson crossed for Charley Reynolds to score from close range.
In the second half it was Supermarine who scored first, only for Spitfires to hit back immediately from the kick-off as striker Mhairi Hawksworth (on loan from Partick Thistle) fired against the post, allowing Stacey to tap in the rebound.
Katie Wadey then hit a 14-minute hat-trick, completed in the 83rd minute, as the Spitfires took the league championship ahead of Swindon Town Development.
Spitfires’ player-manager Diane George said; ‘Everyone played well for each other today and to win the league in our 50th anniversary year is an incredible achievement.’
Swindon Spitfires Development had earlier won their league when finishing four points clear of Warminster Sky Blue.
Swindon Spitfires season isn’t over yet, as there are still have several cup matches remaining and their Subsidiary Cup begins in several weeks, not forgetting the 50th Anniversary celebrations happening later in the year.
