Sweden Eliminate Hosts On Penalties

Sweden 0-0 Brazil (aet, Sweden won 4-3 on pens)
Germany 2-0 Canada

Nearly 70,000 saw Brazil sturggle to hit the target against Sweden and when they did so, Hedvig Lindahl was there to make the save, with a header from Formiga one of the hosts best chances.

When it came down to penalties, Barbara and Lindahl made one save each before Lisa Dahlkvist again converted the decider.

In the second semi-final, Germany took a first half lead when Kadeisha Buchanan made a clumsy foul on Alex Popp in the area.and Melanie Behringer blasted home the resulting spot-kick.

Sara Dabritz then doubled the lead with an effort from the edge of the box to set up a gold medal match with wildcard entrants Sweden, who had won the qualifying play-off following Team GB’s decision not to take part.
