Sunderland have signed Demi Lambourne from Leicester City on a two-year contract, following the departure of Black Cats’ keeper Claudia Moan.

Lambourne helped Leicester City secure promotion to the WSL in 2021, following that up by winning the Players’ Player of the Season the following campaign.

The 28-year-old signed for Crystal Palace on loan last season, keeping seven league clean sheets as the Eagles sealed top spot in the Championship.

Lambourne told safc.com“I had a visit with Mel [Reay]and Steph [Libbey] and they sold it to me. Coming to visit the club and the facilities was fantastic so it was a no-brainer. With the togetherness not just in the building but with the fans as well, I wanted to be a part of it and I can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Mel Reay said: “Demi is a fantastic goalkeeper and joins us as a league winner. As a former WSL goalkeeper, she has a wealth of experience which will add critical value to our team. She is a commanding goalkeeper, a great shot stopper and with her excellent distribution skills, I believe Demi will prove vital as we continue to evolve our tactics and style of play.”
