Sunderland AFC Ladies have re-signed former player Tyler Dodds who was most recently playing in Italy with Napoli.

The 25-year-old began her senior career with the Black Cats, departing in 2016 to join Durham – then returning for a second Sunderland spell the following year.

Dodds then moved on to Middlesbrough and recently returned to England after a stint in Naples.

“It means a lot to be back after coming through the Centre of Excellence and being here previously for so many years,” Dodds told safc.com.

“I obviously had a few years away, but I think that has given me the experience and more knowledge in my career to make me a better player.

“I’m excited to play in the Championship with this group of girls. I’m always looking to win, so hopefully we can keep building and challenging to go even further.”

Manager Mel Reay commented: “We’re delighted to have Tyler back – I’ve known her for a very long time now and we watched and tracked her when she played for Middlesbrough – we’re really glad to bring her home.

“The squad’s taking good shape and we’ve got a good mixture of youth and experience. Hopefully that stands us in good stead.

“Tyler offers something different to the team – she has pace in abundance and she’s a goalscorer which adds to the goals we already have in the squad. She’s another great attacking threat.”
