Stirling Break Hamilton Hearts

Stirling University moved within a point of third-placed Celtic, as they defeated Hamilton Academical by the best of five goals in the only top-flight game today.

The Accies were looking to double their wins for the season after taking a 13th-minute lead through Lori Gardner but Ashley MacDonald levelled when following up a parried cross delivered by Rachel Donaldson.

Hamilton hit the woodwork early in the second half and then Donaldson was denied by the crossbar, before a Jade Gallon penalty had the students ahead.

The visitors thought they had a point when Gardner equalised with 3 minutes left, only for Beth McKay (pictured) to immediately restore the hosts’ lead.

The match was the last home game for Stirling’s Donaldson after 14 years at the club, as she soon departs for a scholarship in America.

Forfar Hold Firm

Forfar Farmington remained 9 points clear in SWPL 2 with a 4-0 beating of Buchan. Cheryl Kilcoyne took only 16 seconds to score and then won a penalty which Nicola Davidson converted. Fiona Ritchie conceded an own goal in the second half and Danni McGinley rounded off the goals late on.

Second in the table Motherwell came from behind to edge out Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale. Forker set up Fish to net for Vale on 24 minutes but the home side turned the game round with two goals in the last 20 minutes.

Glasgow Girls are still goal-difference behind them, after a 2-0 victory at Jeanfield Swifts. Lauren Evans made the breakthrough on 65 minutes and Lauren Coleman sealed the points with 7 minutes left.

Hearts hit basement side East Fife for six, with Ashley Carse and Rachel Walkingshaw bagging a brace each. There was a first goal in 4 years for Danni Pagliarulo and a venomous volley by Kara Kidd.

Old Firm Midweek Derby

There’s a big match on Wednesday 24th June, when Rangers and Celtic clash in SWPL 1 at New Tinto Park, kick-off 8.05pm.

Then next Sunday, 18th June, the SSE Scottish FA Cup takes centre stage, with the second round ties.
