Glasgow City missed the chance to go top of the Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 on Wednesday, when held to a goalless draw at Stirling University.
Scott Booth’s side needed a win from their game in hand to overtake leaders Hibernian but were left frustrated by third-placed Stirling, who took a point off the reigning champions for the first time ever.
A dominant City produced plenty of chances against a hardworking defence but any time they got a shot on target, goalkeeper Chloe Logan was there to deny them.
Logan turned efforts round the post from both Carla Boyce and Jo Love, before blocking out a Katie McCabe shot with her legs.
City threw on four subs going into the last 20 minutes and it nearly paid swift dividends but Noelle Murray fired over from close range.
Stirling Coach Michael Tuohy said of the historic draw: ‘All credit to the girls, they were outstanding. They worked so hard.’
Fixtures for Sunday 3rd September see Glasgow City host Hamilton, Stirling entertain Rangers and Aberdeen take on Spartans, before next Wednesday’s crucial clash of the league’s top two.
