St Ivo Make Second National Final

The first St Ivo goal came from their player of the match, Tia Everdell, but the opposition from Somerset equalized in a closely fought first half.

The story was different during the second half, with a resurgence from the St Ivo girls to dominate the match. Abby Townsend scored two goals, with the final score 3-1.

St Ivo coaches and players alike are keenly anticipating the prestigious finals, expected to be held at Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium in May (dates yet to be announced).

The U-13s will take on either Thomas Telford School or Our Lady’s RC High School, whilst the U-14s face either Thomas Telford or, in a rerun of last year’s final, South Hunsley School.

Lisa Trigg, PE teacher and coach/manager for St Ivo girls football teams, said she was, “so excited and proud to have reached not one but two National Finals. This record for the school is testimony to the energy, talent, enthusiasm and determination of the players. Thanks also go to the many parents who have supported and encouraged all the way.

“I’d particularly like to thank Darren Marjoram who has shown such dedication in helping to coach St Ivo girls football teams. His hours of voluntary work with the school have made pushing for more national success a possibility. He initially helped with the squad that his daughter plays in but now gives up hours to coach alongside me with three of the six teams at school, and also attends all their matches where his main role is to calm my nerves!”

And that’s not all for sporting success at St Ivo! Last week also saw the U-12s through to the fourth round of their National Cup after a 5-0 victory.
