SSE FA Cup Quarter-Finals Preview

Sunday 26th March (2pm)
SSE WOMEN’S FA CUP QUARTER-FINALS

Birmingham City v Arsenal (Solihull Moors FC)
Chelsea v Sunderland (Staines Town FC)
Bristol City v Manchester City (Stoke Gifford Stadium)
Liverpool v Notts County (Select Security Stadium)

(Q-F winners receive £4,000 prize money)

Birmingham City hosted eventual winners Arsenal in the fifth round of the cup last season, with the Gunners going through on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Both their league meetings in 2016 finished goalless, so another tight encounter looks very possible.

Liverpool will be looking to improve upon last term’s record against Notts County. The Reds were held to a 0-0 home draw by the Lady Pies and lost out 3-2 at Meadow Lane.

Bristol City are the only side left in the competition that did not play in WSL 1 last year. So facing Champions League quarter-finalists Manchester City represents quite a challenge for the Vixens, who did the league double over City in 2014 but things had changed twelve months on, with 6-0 and 3-1 wins for City.

Sunderland will also have to be at their best for a visit to Chelsea. The Blues did only edge their league game at Wheatsheaf Lane 2-1 last time round but ran out 5-0 winners on Wearside.
