Spartans are the new SWPL leaders with a second successive win, defeating Forfar 3-1. Alana Marshall converted a penalty for the hosts and although Amy Galacher swiftly replied, Forfar had Robyn Smith dismissed with over an hour to play. Mariel Kaney put Spartans back in front and Katie Reilly sealed the win with their third goal.
Reigning champions Glasgow City made it back to back wins with a single goal against Celtic. Clare Shine scored on 54 minutes after being set up by Ruesha Littlejohn but the latter was sent off late one and Suzanne Mulvey was denied a leveller by the post.
Rangers registered their first pints of the new season but had to come from behind to defeat Stirling University 4-1. Kerr’s early goal was cancelled out just before half time by Sarah Robertson. Katey Turner gave the Gers the lead just short of the hour mark, with Megan Foley blasting in the third and Hayley Sinclair finishing the scoring.
Aberdeen also got off the mark by holding Hibs to a goalless draw.
Hamilton have taken over Jeanfield’s early SWPL 2 top spot after defeating them 4-0. Gillian Inglis14, Lori Gardner and Marie McGuinness were amongst the goals for the Accies.
Hearts sank Inverness 7-0 as Ashley Carse hit her first senior hat-trick for the side. Rachel Walkingshaw, Brogan Anderson, Becca Smith and Louise Moultray added one apeice.
Buchan ran out 3-0 winners at Hutchison Vale, with the hosts losing keeper Charlene Lessells to a head injury and later missing a penalty when Beth MacLeod’s effort was saved. Louise Brown got the first goal and Vanessa Silcocks was successful from the spot to make it 2-0. Lydia Johnstone got the third past Hutchie’s stand-in keeper.
Glasgow Girls got the only goal at Queens Park, where Sarah Curtis was their scorer.
