Spain Women have dispensed with the services of Montse Tome after failing to win Euro 2025, with Sonia Bermudez announced as her successor for the manager role.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation decided not to extend the contract of Tome which was set to expire at the end of this month.
Spain were favourites to win the European Championship for the first time this summer, but fell short in a penalty shootout loss to England in the final.
There had been reports last week that Tome’s future was uncertain due to her expiring contract.
It has now been confirmed that Tome will leave the role and is being replaced by Spain’s U23 coach Bermudez.
Bermudez takes on the role at Spain, who are favourites with betting sites to win Euro 2029.

Why did Spain decide to part ways with Montse Tome?
Spanish publication El Pais reported that the decision to replace Montse Tome was made before Euro 2025.
That means it didn’t matter whether or not Spain beat England in the final, Tome was going to be on her way out regardless.
The report claims that Reyes Bellver, the head of women’s football at the Spannish Football Federation, had in mind to replace Tome ever since her arrival at the federation.
Before the start of the Euros, Reyeshad already parted ways with youth coaches Kenio Gonzalez and Laura del Rio.
The news to replace Tome has reportedly caught Spain stars off guard, after they found out via the press.
Tome held the role since September 2023, after replacing Jorge Vilda in the aftermath of the Luis Rubiales scandal involving Jenni Hermoso.
Before Euro 2025 started, Hermoso hit out at Tome after she was left out of the 23-player squad.
