How Spain and Switzerland reached the quarter-finals
Spain advanced to the knockout stages as one of the most dominant teams from the groups, where the team scored 14 goals in the space of three games.
Four Spaniards were named in the Euro 2025 team of the group stage which included Irene Paredes, Patricia Guijarro, Alexia Putellas and Mariona Caldentey.
Despite not being named in the team of the group stage, Spain striker Esther Gonzalez is leading the Euro 2025 golden boot race with four goals.
There was never any doubt that the world champions were going to cruise through the group stage and they shortened to odds on for the tournament after 5-0 win against Portugal and a 6-2 win against Belgium.
Switzerland on the other hand left qualification right until the very last minute in the final group game.
A 92nd minute equaliser from Riola Xhemaili against Finland saved the host nation from an early elimination, but their progress came at a cost with the most difficult knockout draw.
Switzerland were anything but convincing during the group stage with just one win (2-0 against Iceland) and having scored just four in preparation for the knockouts they will need to find more from the attack going forward.
Spain vs Switzerland predicted lineups
Spain stars Claudia Pina, Ona Batlle, Laia Aleixandri and Olga Carmona were all rested for the final group game with qualification secured but all are expected to return to the lineup on Friday.
Esther Gonzalez was another to be handed a rest against Italy but despite only playing 15 minutes, the 32-year-old was able to stay sharp with a late goal.
Alexia Putellas has played every minute of the tournament so far and will once again lead the midfield alongside fellow Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí.
There is some doubt over who Switzerland will have available for their quarter-final clash on Friday after illness struck the team earlier in the week with training cancelled.
Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic, Leila Wandeler and goalscorer Riola Xhemaili all have a chance of starting against Spain after impressing off the bench against Finland.
Spain Women predicted XI (4-3-3): Nanclares; Battle, Paredes, Aleixandri, Carmona; Bonmati, Guijarro, Putellas; Caldentey, Pina, Gonzalez
Switzerland Women predicted XI (5-3-2): Peng; Beney, Calligaris, Stierli, Maritz, Crnogorcevic; Reuteler, Walti, Vallotto; Wandeler, Schertenleib
Spain vs Switzerland prediction
These nations have faced off just six times since 2011 and Spain hold a dominant record in the head to head with five wins to Switzerland’s one.
All signs point to a Spain victory in Bern after the group stage, as qualification came with extreme ease for the world champions.
While Switzerland could pose a threat with the advantage of being tournament hosts, they struggled for goals in the groups and Spain’s defence has been solid enough so far.
We are fully confident that Spain can get the job done on Friday and a demolition job for the 2022 finalists could be on the cards.
Spain to win 4-0 is currently priced at 8/1 according to the UK’s best betting sites.
Prediction: Spain 4-0 Switzerland – 8/1
Spain vs Switzerland betting tips
- Spain vs Switzerland betting tip 1: Alexia Putellas to score anytime – 1/1
An obvious answer for anytime goalscorer in the penultimate quarter-final clash is Esther Gonzalez, but with a fairly low price available for the current golden boot leader, we are taking the value on Alexia Putellas.
The two-time Ballon d’Or winner has played every minute for Spain so far at the Euros and she continues to show her talent on the major stage.
Putellas has scored three at Euro 2025 in her three appearances and the Barcelona star is just behind her international teammate in the hunt for a golden boot.
15 – As well as having three goals and four assists, Spain’s Alèxia Putellas is the first player Opta has on record since 2013 to have both 15+ shots and create 15+ chances in the group stage of a UEFA Women’s EURO tournament. Phenomenal. pic.twitter.com/HMrYIpd0f4

Here at SheKicks we are backing Putellas to score anytime at a price of 1/1, which we think represents serious value in what could be another goal-fest.
- Spain vs Switzerland betting tip 2: Spain to win to nil – 10/11
Although they only kept one clean sheet during the group stage we are backing Spain to win to nil against Switzerland.
The tournament hosts have been fairly disappointing in front of goal so far this summer and Spain’s defence will be their toughest test yet.
With Spain expected to dominate possession throughout the game there could be an opportunity for Switzerland on the counter, but we think the world champions can hold tough in what should be a relatively easy quarter-final.
The news that Switzerland had to change their training plan due to illness in the camp is sure to only benefit Spain too.
Spain to win to nil is currently 10/11 with the UK’s best betting sites.
Who does the winner face in the semi-final?
Spain and Switzerland meet before the other quarter-final on their side of the draw, so the winner won’t have any idea on who they play until Saturday night.
The winner of this quarter-final will face either Germany or France. The semi-final will be played on Wednesday 23rd July at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich.
Spain & Switzerland Euro 2025 odds
