Spain will be without their captain Alexia Putellas for UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 following a serious knee injury.

She recently became the first Spain women’s international to reach 100 caps, clocking up three figures during a friendly with Italy.

However, with the squad in London preparing for their opening match, she suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

Spain begin their UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 campaign against Finland on Friday 8 July.
