Spain made it a hat-trick of UEFA Women’s U-19 European Championship titles with a 2-1 extra-time defeat of the Netherlands in Lithuania.

They were ahead after only six minutes, as Player of the Tournament Daniela Agote played in Marísa García, who curled a shot past goalkeeper Danae van der Vliet and inside the far post.

The Dutch hit back in a dominant second-half showing, levelling by the hour mark as Lotte Keukelaar took the ball off Ainhoa Alguacil and set up Danique Tolhoek for the finish.

Keukelaar was denied late on by a save from Eunate Astralaga with Spain holding on but as reminder of their threat, they almost won it in stoppage time as Van der Vliet thwarted Agote and Isa Kardinaal blocked the follow-up from Marisa.

Netherlands’ Karlijn Woons struck the top of the crossbar from 30 yards out in extra time but with penalties imminent, Olga San Martín’s ball across the six-yard box was met by Intza Eguiguren coming in at the far post, to hit the ball into the roof of the net.

In a record eleventh WU19 final for Spain, they matched Germany’s records of three titles in a row and six overall, while maintaining their position as champions in all UEFA and FIFA women’s youth tournaments.
