They had begun the day two points behind Oxford City – who had completed their fixtures – but were visiting a Chesham side a couple of points further back from one game more.
A late goal gave them a 1-0 win in Buckinghamshire, ending their hosts’ hopes and at the same time securing not just back-to-back titles but also a first-ever promotion to the Premier League.
For unfortunate Oxford, it meant a third successive runners-up in the division but they do still have the Southern League Cup Final to play for against the champions on 7th May at Thatcham Town FC, kick-off 3pm.
After the matter of trying to complete the double, Southampton WFC can look forward to FAWPL derbies with neighbours Southampton Saints next season.
