CHAIRMAN’S CUP FINAL
Alton 1-2 Barton Rovers
Southampton Women’s FC completed a Southern League and Cup double, by defeating Premier Division runners-up Oxford City after extra-time.
Premier League-bound Southampton WFC twice took the lead through Jane Yeates and Laura Gillbank but were quickly pegged back each time, Danielle Anderson with the first.
City might have taken the lead themselves on more then one occason but for the efforts of goalkeeper Rachael Cash.
But the South Coast side struck a quickfire brace in the added half-hour from Karleen Hellard and Sheree Bell-Jack.
Oxford, who had no subs due to injuries, still battled on and even hit the bar but could not prevent Southampton (pictured) adding to their silverware.
Division 1 rivals Alton and Barton Rovers met in the Chairman’s Cup Final, in the first of the double-header at Thatcham Town FC.
They were all square at the break, with Alton’s Tiffany Taylor heading in a corner on 16 minutes and Rachel Allwright netting for Rovers.
Allwright would go on to double her tally 5 minutes into the second half and thereby seal Barton’s success.
