South Korea qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams after beating group winners Germany.
Group C: Morocco 0-2 Spain, USA 7-0 Paraguay
Group D: South Korea 1-0 Germany, Venezuela 0-4 Nigeria
Spain topped their group with three straight wins, eliminating Morocco with a 2-0 victory. Nahia Aparicio’s fifth-minute goal and a late second from Lucia Ruiz ended the Moroccans’ interest.
Pietra Tordin hit a hat-trick for the USA against Paragauay, the 7-0 result securing them second spot. Giselle Thompson, Yuna McCormack, Ally Sentnor and Maddie Dahlein were also on target. The USA will play Mexico in the next round on 11 September.
Soo-Jeong Park’s goal midway through the first half was enough for South Korea to defeat Germany.
Nigeria finished second with a 4-0 win over Venezuela, Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu and Flourish Sabastine with first-half goals, Joy Ikbokwe adding the fourth in stoppage time.
