Sophie Ingle has been named in Rhian Wilkinson’s 23-player Wales squad for the upcoming Women’s Euro 2025.
The Chelsea midfielder will be part of the first Welsh squad to compete in a major women’s senior international tournament next month.
Ingle has been out of action since suffering an ACL injury with Chelsea last September. However, she will be part of the travelling squad to Switzerland.
Wilkinson explained the decision to select Ingle in her press conference which was held at the peak of Yr Wyddfa – also known as Snowdon.
She said: “We needed to make sure that Sophie Ingle was in a good place. She’s still on her path to full fitness but she’s in a position now where she can contribute which is important for us. It’s a really great mix in this squad which is exciting for me.”
The Wales head coach added: “I don’t want to get into (what role Ingle will be able to play) specifically because Sophie’s pushing, she’s looking really good in training.
“She made me look foolish yesterday, I should never jump into training anymore, it’s not good for my ego. She has to be able to contribute in some way. That was the pre-requisite that I had. When she was able to meet that she was a straight into the squad.”
Ingle is joined by other senior figures including Jess Fishlock, captain Angharad James, and Hayley Ladd.
Her inclusion comes at a time when she is looking for a new club. It has been announced that she will leave Chelsea at the end of her contract this summer.

Who has been left out of the Wales squad?
Manchester City defender Mayzee Davies won’t play a part at Euro 2025 after she ruptured her ACL during a training session.
Also on the injury list are Perth Glory’s Megan Wynne and Cardiff City goalkeeper Laura O’Sullivan-Jones.
There is no room for Manchester United teenager Mared Griffiths, who made her senior international debut back in February.
Bristol City’s Tianna Teisar also misses out of the Wales squad for their first major tournament.
However, three players have been named on the reserve list – though manager Rhian Wilkinson decided not to reveal who they were during her press conference.
Wales Euro 2025 schedule
Rhian Wilkinson’s side are in a difficult Group D at Women’s Euro 2025.
The Euro 2025 fixture schedule sees Wales kick-off their campaign on July 5th against Euro 2017 champions the Netherlands.
Wales then face France on July 9th and England on July 13th. Wilkinson’s side will hope to make the knockout phase at the first attempt.
