US Soccer reports that a crowd of 19,272 fans at Soldier Field in Chicago also saw Solo earn her 150th career win and Crystal Dunn bag the game-winner in the 35th minute, in the first meeting of the two sides at any age-group.
Solo stopped both of South Africa’s shots on goal and dominated her penalty box to reach 100 shutouts in her 197th cap. Her 150th career win extended her record for a goalkeeper.
Commenting on her historic achievement, she said; “I simply can’t believe I am the first goalkeeper to reach such a great milestone. There have been many great goalkeepers throughout history, both men and women, but to be the first to 100 shutouts is crazy! It speaks to a lifetime of work, of staying committed and determined, no matter what the challenges. It only makes it that much sweeter.”
