Swindon Town have signed forward Sky Bedwell following her release from Southampton.
The 20-year-old made her debut for Southampton as a teenager, progressing through the club’s academy, but her progress was disrupted after she suffered two anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
A statement from the club called her “a player who has grown significantly through adversity and arrives at Swindon as a more mature and well-rounded prospect.”
Sky Bedwell: I feel in a great place now
In quotes published on the club website, Bedwell said: “I’m really excited to be joining Swindon Town. I’ve been through a lot over the last few years, but I feel in a great place physically and mentally now. I’m grateful for the belief the club has shown in me, and I’m looking forward to working hard, enjoying my football again, and helping the team in any way I can.”
Robins manager Richard Wood added: “I want to thank Southampton for helping us bring in Sky. We’ve had her in for several training sessions, she’s attracted interest from some top clubs, and we’ve been really impressed and pleased that she has chosen us.
“She’s technically very strong, fit, and incredibly determined. We believe she has huge potential, and we’re delighted to give her the opportunity to continue her football journey here at Swindon Town. I’m always focused on person first, player second, and Sky has a fantastic attitude, which will serve her well and also push others in our group as competition for places increases.”
Swindon are currently second in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.
They are one point behind leaders Moneyfields, with two games in hand – and have won all ten of their league games so far this season.
Their first game of 2026 was due to be against Abingdon United but it has been postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
The Robins face Charlton Athletic later this month in the fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup.
