Sister & Brother Assistant Referees

Ceri Williams and her brother Rhys qualified as referees together but only recently got to officiate at the same match for the first time.

With Cardiff Metropolitan having secured a 4-1 victory against Welsh Premier Women’s League rivals Port Talbot Town, WPWL reporter Robert Clement spoke to assistant referee Ceri Williams, with her having taking control of the GenQuip Stadium line, while operating on the opposite side was her brother Rhys, with the two Mumbles family members collectively officiating at senior level.

“Yes, it’s the first time we’ve worked together as a team, which is quite nice. We qualified at the same time, so it’s been a long time coming, but it’s certainly nice for us both top work together”.

“I first started refereeing in 2010, with my dad getting me involved on the course, and I’ve been running the line in the Women’s Premier League”.

“This will be my third season; I’m really enjoying it and it’s nice to be involved in Women’s football, and there is obviously a long way I can go with it as well”.

She then reflected on the UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship which was held in West Wales at the beginning of last season.

“Yes, we got to take part, and it was an amazing experience to meet all the officials and just to see how everything operates behind the scenes”.
